My unique Gibson up for grabs Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 at 2:32 pm

gibson-for-grabs

Truth be told, I was hoping out of sight, out of mind, and I’d get to keep it. Turns out, I was wrong.

MTV have told me that it’s time that I let go of my Gibson. But they aren’t having it all their way. We’ve agreed that I can give it away to one of you. I know, I know – go ahead, take pleasure in my misery.

It’s pretty unique, one of only 25 ever made and signed by John Legend, Metallica, Macy Gray, Kasabian, Paolo Nutini, Spinal Tap, Russell Brand and more.

So, I don’t just want to give it away. If I’m going to part with it, I want to know it’s going to somewhere it belongs. So, if you want it, you’re going to have to work for it.

Show me an effort you have made to improve the environment around you.

Big, small, a change to a place, or some people – that’s for you to decide. What’s most important to me is that you do it with the imagination and style that I can relate to. My guitar’s a total individual, and its owner needs to be too.

Be inspired, be playful and be smart.

Send me a video, story or image to my blog or via email email
Before submitting your entry be sure to read the competition terms and conditions.

You can go to the MTV website www.mtvcherrygirl.com to find out more soon – but don’t worry I’ll keep you posted.

Surprise me. I look forward to it.

This is such a great opportunity for every one to make the world a better place. I hope this will inspire more people to do what you do, Cherry Girl. You are an inspiration! I look up to you. I hope very much to win this, but that is not the point! The point is to spread joy and change…. am I right?

  • mads says:

that is such a good idea! and it makes sense, instead of giving it away to people who just guess the answer right to a question in competitions

This is a great idea, but I’m not sure what the outcome will be, I’m thinking some random people might do something drastic but it wont have been integrated into their everyday lives, just something they’ve done for the guitar.

I however am not going to enter because the most I can offer is putting the right things in the right recycling boxes, using little water when brushing my teeth and turning off the lights.

Good luck to all that enter though!!
    :)

  • Cherrygirl says:

But that is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for! Playful, inventive, fun…small can be big. And don’t worry, the guitar will go to the right person x

  • Here I send you some pictures of our project. We are a group of friends always thinking about what can we do to extend the life of our planet; small or big there’s something always something we can do to help. Here is the link to our blog. Please let me know what you think of it.

Car Tire Recycling Street Woqui Project

It’s really a garbaga bin not a disposal. Thanks cherry girl. Take care. Saludos from PR, Woqui.

  • My Entry:

I don’t even play guitar, yet…but my Dad, Brother and Niece do. I’ve been wanting to learn, so WOW, wouldn’t it be something if I could play with them with YOUR guitar! They would be in shock :)

What have I done for the environment? The biggest thing I have done is buy a Prius, a much more expensive car than I could really afford, but it was important to me to reduce my carbon impact. I also switched to the environmentally friendly light bulbs. I recycle. I have bird houses posted all around my yard, which they occasionally use and I rescue numerous small animals from my cat when I can :)

I know it’s not much, or unique, but I am always open to more ideas and willing to offer my design services to any non profit organization that is trying to protect wildlife habitat.

  • I have just sent you an email! Thank you for making us participants of our own future concerning about Global Warming! It is natural to be worry about it, but many people doesn’t catch the idea yet as a priority. Regards.

  • Melissa Rose says:

    Hello Cherry Girl!

I read about your project on FACEBOOK today, so here it goes…

‘Ways that I have been trying to help the environment!’:

    1) Conserving gas! If I need to drive somewhere, I try & plan the quickest route in advance and run all errands during one trip a day. Better yet, I carpool, walk, or ride a bike if possible.

    2) Re-using water bottles! If I purchase a bottle of water, I re-fill the same bottle several times before buying another.

    3) Recycling! When I had my own place (everything’s in storage now…that’s another story!), I separated the plastic and paper from the other waste and took it to the recycling bin in the building where I lived at the time.

    4) Turning off lights! Whenever I leave a room, I always try and remember to turn off the lights on my way out. Same goes for computers and other electronics. This helps keep the electric bill low and also cools off the place in the heat of summer. :-)

    5) Singing & Playing Guitar! When I’m stressed out or want to improve the *mood* of the environment, I’ve found that playing music helps me relax and often times puts others at ease as well. :-)

Thanks for your time and all you’re doing to help bring awareness to improving our environment! I hope you will consider me for the gorgeous guitar you are giving away, I would treat it with great love and respect and shower it with ‘Sweet Kisses’! xoxoxoxo

    Sincerely,
    Melissa Rose

  • Sarah says:

So this is my entry to the contest. I am someone who is very big on saving the enviroment and doing everything I can to do so, for example I have convinced my family to stop using the dryer for the entire summer and only hanging our laundry on the clothes line. That helped the enviroment and saved us some money.

Also my friend and I go around town sometimes and pick up as much garbage as we can, on Earth Day we ended up going around for three hours and had almost five garbage bags full.

I also walk to dance, or take the bus to work and just try to use a vehicle as little as possible. :)

And that is what I have been doing in order to save the enviroment, because I am still very young and would love to live my life to it’s fullest! :P

  • I made a short video on sustainability. I’d like to submit it for consideation. You can see it in my website link posted or go to this Youtube link:

So I do not know if this is big or small, but I am still young to give much more that I would like to give like to take part in an organization… But I encourage those that I know… as my family, my friends and everyone I know; to recycle, take care, not to abuse the power and keep small movements that they can do to protect nature… Also make sure the environment not only through our daily routine and taking care of plants and animals… So much and I look after the garden because we live in town and the green set is not enough. Not wasting water to water the plants but the need for to grow and produce oxygen, we also reduce the movement of our car k choose public transportation … I have changed the bags of rubbish to degradation, mash the fruit peel and recycle as much as we can with the garbage to have significantly reduced .. Let us respect the nature because we live through it…

  • John Clark says:

I’m a one person library staff in a very small Maine town. I’ve worked very hard to educate the community on how many innovative ways there are to re-use unwanted books. In addition to swapping over 2000 on Bookmooch, Paperbackswap and Swaptree.com, including sending books to over 25 foreign countries, I (and the community members) have shipped another 200+ boxes to Betterworld Books who sell them, give us 15% and donate another 15% to organizations who promote literacy in areas around the world. I also have a swap box for paperbacks and a free book box for little ones who are coming to the library for the first time. Little kids love taking books home to keep (sorta like Christmas over and over) The library benefits as well as we add close to 4000 new items a year, mostly from stuff received in trades. All this makes plenty of people happy and saves a lot of good books from ending up in the landfill.

  • Maxine says:

    Dear Cherry Girl,

Please don’t tease me! I really want that guitar. I lhink I could love that guitar. It would make me ecstatic to have it. Playing it would be like therapy. I play my dreadnought every day, and it’s therapy.

As to the environment – if a person is truly environmentally conscious, they have many stories. It’s second nature to remain aware. Okay, here’s one of my many, really little, tiniest of stories.

I am one of the few people at my office with an ergonomic keyboard and an ergonomic mouse. They are wireless and use batteries. I hate that! I would love to have a wired ergonomic keyboard and mouse. That is not an option here. Anyway, my office provided no environmentally correct way to recycle the used batteries. I saved them not knowing how I would dispose of them.

Enter my friend Barbara, who teaches me more about being environmentally correct every day than I learned while living in California (she’s from California, too). Barbara collected my spent batteries, took them home, then lugged them on the subway to an appropriate recycling site (like Whole Foods). Now, that shows serious love for the environment. In my book, she gets a gold star!

Oh, but in our daily lives we do so much environmentally correct stuff! So many tales to tell. Go Green!

During the colder months, I plug the tub to catch the hot shower water until it cools down to room temperature, thus saving the energy used to heat it by using it again to heat the inside of my flat. Why warm the septic/sewer system? Then, I use the cooled down water to flush the toidee. ;-) xo, Johnny

  • sanjeev kaushal says:

Hi! cherry girl, you are an inspiration.Iam a poor chap and donot know how to play a guitar, but want one because iam a songwriter,a poet and western dancer and a singer. But iam not an amatuer or a professional because i poor and poor people hardly get any chances,So whenever i have somer extra money in my pockets,i usually go to a bird store in my city and purchase some birds, the maximum i can and then release them in some natural habitat or parks where the bird catchers normally don’t go.So that they can live their life as they want in freedom as a part of nature. Moreover there is one more thing i do,i spread enviornmental awareness among people so that they respect nature and donot interfere in its natural working. This i started doing around eight years back when i discovered that due to my stars in my horoscope,i can put influence over the masses just like planet pluto.I had discovered that many people were unconsiously following , and doing what i have done in the past and what iam doing in present.I ‘ll explain in detail look its like that iam a shadow celebrity,i have seen that what i have done and have been doing in my life is some recorded by nature and intutively delivered as ideas and thoughts to intellectuals and artists, because most of my life story what i have been through till now ,all different aspects and phases like my love life,my professional life,my personal life etc has been brought to life onscreen as block buster movies in hollywood and even in my country in bollywood.i sometimes feel like iam living a recording of some old blockbuster movie.

So what i did was that i started to telepathically influence people i wherever i went,i made people feel that trees and plants are a part of human body and nature.Like i put telepathic thoughts in their brain that trees are like the bronchioles in both the lungs and are their representation in nature. So what has happenend in some years that people in my vincity and many other places have started being more enviornmental friendly and protect and enhance the greenery around by planting more trees and plants around their residences.

    Hi Cherry Girl,
My brother is a huge fan of Metallica, Foo Fighters, Keane and Kasabian and when we found out that there was an oppurtunity to win this guitar signed by both these bands he was very happy and he plays the guitar really well, infact he’s playing it right now, literally.
I really wish I can win this Gibson for him but i’m quite young and I can’t really take part in more serious business but I did every little thing that I could do to like recycling, and getting recycling bins in my school, I always follow the three R’s rule and I do the basic things to help the environment. It’s very important for us because it’s the our generation that’s going to live through it very long.
There’s nothing more but I really hope that I can win this guitar for my brother.
    Thanks for you time
I’m sorry hat you have to be giving away something that is so priceless that you really value away, but you will be giving it to good hands

  • Vittoria says:

    Dear Cherry girl,

I loves the Gibson guitar that you’re offering, and guess what, i’m just planning where to get a guitar because i decided to take up guitar classes… until i saw this great news! I really wich to own this amazing guitar!!! ;)

What had i done to help the environment? Well, sometimes when there’s always raining, i collects the rain water into a pail and used it to water the plants to save water resources. Besides, my family and i always packed our rubbish accordingly so that can be used to recycle… I think so far our biggest help is we always pack all our alluminium cans from can-drinks and can-foods and brings them to recycle station.

Well.. i hope everyone can start loving the environment. We must view from a different perspective, which is to preserve the environment so that our future generation will have the opportunity to see forests, clean seas and enjoy unpolluted air.

    Love,
    Vittoria.

  • Julian says:

Hi Cherry Girl. You wanted to know how I made efforts to save the environment right? I would normally recycle unwanted newspaper, plastic bottles, and empty can drinks at the recycling center. I also try my best to do gardening so that the air will be fresher =D..although I don’t enjoy it.Thank You for your time.
