The Day I Took The Bus… Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 at 9:00 pm

From tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow. I had another dream last night. Cherry blossom popping up everywhere, the streets turning pink. So, the second I blinked my eyes open I knew that another mission had begun. I wasn’t sure what it was yet, but that didn’t matter.

As soon as I left the house a bus pulled up. I had no plan and no destination, but knew I should jump on.  Life’s about the journey anyway. I sat down by a man who smelled funny but had amazingly bright red hair. Then he left and a very tall man who didn’t smell funny sat in his seat. I wondered if he even thought for one second about who it was that was sitting in his seat before him.

So, I got out my pad and wrote a note. It said “By sitting in this seat today, April 21st I have become part of the story of this bus. And for this one day, by reading this note, I have agreed to make this bus a better place. All I have to do is say one nice thing to the next person to sit down opposite me. When it’s done, I must sign this paper. I will have made history. And I am a great person. And the sun will shine extra hard on my head today.”

As soon as the seat was empty I folded it neatly in half, propped the note up and left my pencil. Obviously I put my headphones on to pretend I wasn’t paying attention but truth be told my bus ride had now turned from short journey into a day long spying mission.

I must have done about 10 loops of the city on that bus, but it was addictive. Sitting there, sneaking glances of people as their faces lit up when they got an unexpected complement from a stranger. Old women, hairy men, couples who were on holiday – the comments came thick and fast, some awkward, some over enthusiastic, but all genuine, all spontaneous and most importantly all unexpected. Nice hair, nice shoes, lovely accent, even great laugh – all the little things got noticed.

And judging by the looks of the people who became unsuspecting victims of my plan, I’m guessing those compliments might have changed the whole day ahead of them. It did for me.

Bye,
CG x

Now THAT’S what I call an interesting position on this subject. What I would suggest though is talking to other people involved in the scene and bring to day any other points of view and then update your blog or create a new article for us to . I hope you’ll take my advice, I’m looking forward to it! Try to cover off on some graffiti characters as well if you can, they’re very popular at the moment.
