Cherry Girl Meets Nickelback Monday, June 15th, 2009

So MTV gave me the heads up that Nickelback were in town recently promoting their latest single “If Today Was Your Last Day”.

I listened to the song and the lyrics which had a really positive message and I really wanted to meet them to find out more and to show them my Live Earth Gibson!  They were very cool and are making some really great efforts to improve their environments, here’s what they said when I asked them what they have done which is worthy of keeping the guitar…

Show me what efforts you guys are making at cherrygirlguitar@gmail.com and I might give it to you if it beats what Nickelback are doing…

Nele estava escrito:

“Me encontre no Parque do Ibirapuera antes do pôr-do-sol.

Eu levarei algumas velas, uma manta, musica, pão, cerejas e alguns beijos.
Você leva…você!

Feliz Dia dos Namorados.

Xx

Tweetheart Tweets for Trees Monday, June 8th, 2009

I wake up to muffled sounds of an acoustic guitar which seems to be coming from the hallway outside by apartment. I peek through a crack in my front door and see my Live Earth Gibson! I must have left it with “I heart NY T-shirt” boy at the meet and treat party…

I opened the door, invited him in for some breakfast (the least I could do to thank him for returning the Gibson!) and told him about my promise to MTV to give it to the person who showed me the best effort they had made to improve their environment.

As it turns out “I heart NY” boy is a big Live Earth supporter, he just been tweeting for trees. He starting playing me the tunes played by the bands who signed the Gibson at Live Earth (good knowledge), and then asked if he could keep the guitar! He reckons he’s top candidate…

Very impressive, but I quickly grabbed the Gibson back – there are a lot of Live Earth fans out there who I am sure would like a go at playing the it too!

Also he needs to show me what he’s done that’s made a positive difference to the environment around him.

I didn’t think he’d be the competitive type, but he’s accepted the challenge, and will have something to show me in the next few weeks… but now I have to show what I’ve done to deserve his T-shirt. What have I started!?!

On the plus side for the next few weeks I think I’ll have the most beautiful alarm clock at door in the morning…

Street Party Friday, June 5th, 2009

Whenever I walk around I’m always looking. I’m always curious. I’m always imagining, speculating. And tonight a house on my street caught my attention. The lights were on, the curtains were up and big boxes of records had been left by their bins.

Within half an hour I was back outside their door, but this time on the opposite side of the street. I was armed with my iPod, speakers, a big sign and a box of things from my room. But most importantly, this time I wasn’t alone. My friends were alongside me. Three’s a crowd, but four’s a party, right?

We flicked on our music, lit some candles and laid our stash out in the road. A vintage picnic set caught my eye, as did a newish looking guitar amp. Our meet and treat party had begun. Anyone could join – the only entry policy was to take part in our trash and treasure trade off.

Quickly curtains began to twitch, curiosities were pricked and strangers began to gather. In an hour our inside-out house party had taken shape, with chairs, old school comics even vintage shoes littering the street, people dancing, drinking and chatting amongst them.

But as items came and went, the one thing I was after proved much more elusive.

But patience can be a virtue. As the party hit its peak, with music and voices floating through the street, the door finally opened. Out came a girl, carrying with her the box of old vinyl that had originally inspired me only hours before. I rifled through, pulling out classics and laughing about the tracks that were best left forgotten.

But soon someone else joined my search. A total stranger. But when you’ve got music in common, do you need any other introductions? He’d been walking past but had been too intrigued to walk away. He’d come empty handed, but the black and grey I Heart NY t-shirt he was wearing caught my eye.

As the night drew in, people faded away and the street was left bare. Every item was re-homed, re-loved or re-appreciated by its original owner. No trace of my unconventional street party could be seen. Unless of course you were to count the t-shirt I’m wearing in bed as I type this. I do love New York, after all.
